He was born in Sparta of Laconia where he completed the primary and secondary circle of his education. He studied physics in the University of Athens and received bachelor in physics, Masters in Meteorology/Climatology and PhD in Astrophysics. He also received the title of lecturer from the University of Thessaloniki. He has worked as visitor researcher in the university of Colorado USA,, the Space Research Center in Utrecht, the Netherlands, the Max Planck Institute in Munich Germany, τhe Imperial College and The Rutherford-Appleton Laboratories in UK. His main scientific interests comprise Solar Physics and Solar-Terrestrial Relations. He served as main researcher and research director for almost forty years in the Research Center for Astronomy and Applied Mathematics of the Academy of Athens. He has written more than two hundred articles published in scientific journals, proceedings of conferences and books while, one thousand citations of his authorship have been enumerated in publications of other authors.
Nowadays, after his superannuation, he continues serving as scientific collaborator in the Research Center for Astronomy and Applied Mathematics of the Academy of Athens while at the same time he participates as an alternate member in the board of directors of the Mariolopoulos-Kanaginis Foundation for Environmental Sciences.
His present scientific activity is the observation, analysis, filing, developing and diffusion of Extra Low Frequency (ELF) electromagnetic waves in the band of Schumann’s Resonances.
