During the ceremony, which\u00a0was held on April 19, 2000, the Foundation\u00a0awarded the Gold Medal of Excellence to\u00a0Professor I.S.A. Isaksen, Oslo University,\u00a0Norway.<\/li>\n<li>On November 2, 2000 the awarding of the\u00a0prize \u201cWMO Professor Mariolopoulos Trust\u00a0Fund Award\u201d took place at the Ceremony Hall\u00a0of Athens University. The prize was awarded\u00a0to the studies: \u201cNew estimates of radiative\u00a0forcing due to well mixed greenhouse gases\u201d\u00a0by Dr. G. Myhre of Oslo University, Norway,\u00a0\u201cStudy of the structure of the lower troposphere\u00a0over Athens using a backscattering LIDAR\u00a0during the MEDCAPHOT-TRACE experiment:\u00a0Measurements over a suburban area\u201d by\u00a0Dr. D. Balis, University of Thessaloniki. An\u00a0honourable mention was given to the study:\u00a0\u201cRole of lee waves in the formation of solid\u00a0polar stratospheric clouds: Case studies from\u00a0February 1997\u201d, by Dr. E.D. Riviere, CNRS,\u00a0France.<\/li>\n<li>The Foundation, in collaboration with the\u00a0Committee on the Study of the Global\u00a0Change (IGBP-Global Change), Academy\u00a0of Athens, co-organized a Colloquium on\u00a0the following topic: \u00abGlobal Change in the\u00a0Atmospheric Environment and its Effects\u00a0in the region of Southeast Europe\u00bb. The\u00a0Colloquium took place on April 6, 2001 at\u00a0the \u201cLeon. Zervas\u201d Amphitheatre of the\u00a0National Research Institute in Athens. The\u00a0Colloquium Proceedings were published in\u00a0a special edition by the Academy of Athens\u00a0and the Foundation. (\u201cGlobal Change in the\u00a0Atmospheric Environment and its Effects in\u00a0the region of Southeast Europe\u201d, 2001)<\/li>\n<li>The Foundation undertook to carry out a\u00a0measurement and data collection program\u00a0regarding the concentrations of atmospheric\u00a0pollutants in the Municipality of Chalkida. The\u00a0Program was financed by the Municipality of\u00a0Chalkida, the Municipal Water Supply and\u00a0Sewerage Company of Chalkida (DEYAX)\u00a0and the Public Enterprise of Culture and\u00a0Development of Chalkida (DEPAX).<\/li>\n<li>The Foundation and the Holy Synod\u2019s\u00a0Environmental Committee organized\u00a0the \u201cChurch of Greece Exhibition for the\u00a0Environment. The award was presented to the\u00a0studies: \u201cLagrangian description of airflows\u00a0using Eulerian passive tracers\u201d by Francois\u00a0Gheusi of Meteo, France and \u201cExperimental\u00a0determination of the multiple-scattering effect on the lidar-signal polarization\u00a0characteristics during liquid-and solidphase precipitation\u201d by Boyan Iliev Tatarov,\u00a0Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The award\u00a0was presented by the Secretary General\u00a0of the World Meteorological Organization\u00a0(WMO), Professor G.O.P. Obasi.<\/li>\n<li>The Foundation co-organized with the\u00a0Technical Chamber of Greece the Round\u00a0Table Public Discussion on \u201cThe Impact\u00a0of Aviation on the Environment\u201d, which\u00a0took place on February 1, 2003 within the\u00a0framework of HELECO 03.<\/li>\n<li>The Foundation, in collaboration with the\u00a0Committee on the Study of the Global\u00a0Change (IGBP-Global Change), Academy\u00a0of Athens, co-organized a Colloquium on\u00a0the following topic: \u201cMonitoring Planetary\u00a0Changes in Large Latitudes\u201d. Strizik in his address.<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>The Foundation, in collaboration with the\u00a0International Ozone Committee, co-organized\u00a0the International Ozone Symposium in Kos, on\u00a0June 1-8, 2004. The Symposium was financed\u00a0by the European Union, the General Secretariat\u00a0of the Olympic Games, NASA, the Onassis\u00a0Foundation, the Bodossakis Foundation\u00a0and other international organizations and\u00a0it was placed under the auspices of the\u00a0former President of the Republic, Christos\u00a0Sartzetakis. <a href=\"https:\/\/ioc.atmos.illinois.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/ioc.atmos.illinois.edu\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>During the Symposium, the Foundation\u00a0awarded the prize \u201cWMO Professor\u00a0Mariolopoulos Trust Fund Award\u201d to the\u00a0studies: \u201cThe dynamically-driven longterm\u00a0trend in stratospheric ozone over\u00a0northern middle latitudes\u201d to Dr. Amna Jrrar,\u00a0Cambridge University and \u201cRemote sensing\u00a0detection of atmospheric pollutants by\u00a0differential absorption LIDAR 510M\/SODAR\u00a0PA2 mobile system\u201d to Dr. Michal Strizik of\u00a0the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute.<\/li>\n<li>The works of the Symposium were attended by\u00a0two Nobel Prize winners, Directors of NASA and\u00a0of the Max Planck Institute and other leading\u00a0scientific Foundations. The proceedings of the\u00a0Symposium were published in two volumes.\u00a0(Proceedings of the Quadrennial Ozone\u00a0Symposium QOS2004, 2004)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_1130\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1130\" class=\"wp-image-1130\" src=\"https:\/\/mariolopoulosfoundation.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mariolopoulou-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"582\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1130\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ekaterini-Nina Mariolopoulos (1911-2004)<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>The donor and Chair of the Foundation,\u00a0Ekaterini-Nina Mariolopoulos, wife to the late Academician Elias Mariolopoulos, passed\u00a0away on August 24, 2004.
