{"id":1166,"date":"2018-07-22T23:18:58","date_gmt":"2018-07-22T21:18:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mariolopoulosfoundation.gr\/?page_id=1166"},"modified":"2018-07-22T23:20:36","modified_gmt":"2018-07-22T21:20:36","slug":"2011-3","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mariolopoulosfoundation.gr\/?page_id=1166&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>On January 25-27, 2011 a scientific meeting\u00a0was held in Geneva, Switzerland, within\u00a0the framework of the program \u201cSPARC\/IOC\/WMO-IGACO workshop on Past Changes in\u00a0the Vertical Distribution of Ozone\u201d (in which\u00a0the MFK participates with a self-financed program).\u00a0The Foundation was represented by the\u00a0Assistant Professor of AUTH, Mrs. K. Tourpali.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esrl.noaa.gov\/gmd\/publications\/annual_meetings\/2014\/slides\/21-140327-A.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.esrl.noaa.gov\/gmd\/publications\/annual_meetings\/2014\/slides\/21-140327-A.pdf<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The advisor of the MKF Board, Dr. V. Tritakis\u00a0represented the Foundation on February\u00a020-21, 2011 at the University of Savoy, in\u00a0Chambery, Southern France. This meeting\u00a0marked the beginning of the third consecutive\u00a0program of research cooperation among the\u00a0members of CIRCLE (Climate Impact Research\u00a0Coordination for a Larger Europe). Its subject\u00a0was the effects of climate change on the\u00a0mountainous zone.<\/li>\n<li>February 22-23, 2011 marked the completion\u00a0of the biannual CIRCLE-MED program\u00a0in which eight Mediterranean countries\u00a0participated with six multinational programs.\u00a0The program ended in a festive fashion at\u00a0the conference center of Aix-en-Provence\u00a0in Southern France and it was attended\u00a0by all members of ERA-NET CIRCLE. The\u00a0Foundation was represented by the advisor\u00a0of the Board, Dr. V. Tritakis.<\/li>\n<li>The MKF established an automated\u00a0meteorological station at the 2nd Lyceum\u00a0of Nafpaktos. The objective of this\u00a0station will be the online presentation of\u00a0meteorological parameters and data from\u00a0Nafpaktos. These data will be available to\u00a0anyone interested, especially to the students\u00a0of the local Gymnasiums and Lyceums,\u00a0for the compilation of research projects\u00a0which constitute a major educational\u00a0subject in the new educational program for\u00a0students inaugurated by the Foundation\u00a0in collaboration with the Climatology\u00a0Laboratory of the National and Kapodistrian\u00a0University of Athens (UOA). On March 13, 2011,\u00a0the station was updated and established\u00a0in an event which was held in Nafpaktos\u00a0and it was attended by the Metropolitan of\u00a0Nafpaktos, the mayors of Nafpaktos and\u00a0Dorida, Lyceum and Gymnasium students\u00a0as well as a crowd of people from the wider\u00a0region. The event was organized by the\u00a0Head of the 2nd Lyceum of Nafpaktos, Mr. K.\u00a0Koutsopoulos with the cooperation of other\u00a0educators from Lyceums and Gymnasiums of\u00a0the region. The keynote speaker at the event\u00a0was the Foundation Chairman, Professor\u00a0Christos Zerefos, Academician, who spoke on\u00a0\u201cClimate change and its effects\u201d. Afterwards,\u00a0Associate Professor Panagiotis Nastos presented the meteorological station and\u00a0explained how it works. Also, Associate\u00a0Professor Vasileios Tritakis, a member of the\u00a0Foundation\u2019s Board, made an informative\u00a0presentation of the history, the objectives\u00a0and the programs of the Foundation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_1167\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1167\" class=\"wp-image-1167 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/mariolopoulosfoundation.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/26_2011_omilia.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mariolopoulosfoundation.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/26_2011_omilia.jpg 650w, https:\/\/mariolopoulosfoundation.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/26_2011_omilia-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1167\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Chairman of the Foundation in a lecture at the event for the establishment of an automated meteorological station in Nafpaktos. In the first row are the Mayor of Nafpaktos Mr. Boules with city councilors and the Metropolitan of Nafpaktos (Nafpaktos, 2011).<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>On April 8, 2011, the Chairman, the Secretary\u00a0and the Director of the Foundation had the\u00a0pleasure to attend the celebration that took\u00a0place in order to establish a \u201cgarden of senses\u201d\u00a0at the Training and Rehabilitation Center for\u00a0the Blind in Kallithea (KEAT). The MKF, within\u00a0the framework of the \u201cBiodiversity Year\u201d\u00a0undertook the realization of this garden in\u00a0collaboration with \u201cAntemisaris\u201d Nursery\u00a0Gardens with the aim of acquainting visually\u00a0impaired children with the aromatic plants of\u00a0our country through the senses of touch and\u00a0smell. During this visit, the representatives\u00a0of the Foundation talked with the children\u00a0and exchanged views with the educators\u00a0about the problems faced by KEAT. Finally,\u00a0with great pleasure, the children themselves\u00a0planted the flowers in the flower beds. The\u00a0event was also attended by the professors\u00a0of the University of Thessaloniki, Mr. A. Bais,\u00a0Mrs. K. Tourpali and Mr. P. The conference was held in Rome,\u00a0Italy under the title: \u201cThe Architecture of\u00a0Well-Tempered Environment\u201d. The MKF\u00a0was represented by its Chairman, Professor\u00a0C. Zerefos. Among the participants were\u00a0distinguished architects, scholars and a\u00a0large number of postgraduate students\u00a0from various Architectural Universities. The\u00a0delegates reached significant conclusions\u00a0which can be summarized in the revival\u00a0and modernization of Vitruvio\u2019s trilogy:\u00a0\u201cfirmitas, utilitas, venustas\u201d in the Structured\u00a0environment of the 21st century in harmony\u00a0with nature. At the end of the conference,\u00a0the delegates signed a Manifesto of\u00a0ten points in order to achieve harmony\u00a0between architecture and the environment.\u00a0(Proceedings of the International Event\u00a0\u201cRenewable Energy Sources, an Architectural\u00a0Design-Lab for the Climate Change\u201d,\u00a02010) <a href=\"http:\/\/uia-ares.org\/may-19-20-2011-international-conference-the-architectureof-well-tempered-environment-a-harmonyof-integrated-instruments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/uia-ares.org\/may-19-20-2011-international-conference-the-architectureof-well-tempered-environment-a-harmonyof-integrated-instruments\/<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/mariolopoulosfoundation.gr\/?page_id=700&amp;lang=en\">\u0395UROSOLAR \/UIA-ARES Manifesto<\/a><\/li>\n<li>On Thursday 23rd of June, 2011 on the premises\u00a0of the National Athens Observatory, on\u00a0Nymph Hill, in a joint event for the awarding\u00a0of the prizes \u201cEuropa Nostra\u201d 2010\/2011, there\u00a0was held the awarding of the international\u00a0prize \u201c2010 WMO Professor Mariolopoulos\u00a0Trust Fund Award\u201d. The WMO prizes for 2010\u00a0were awarded to the studies:\n<ol>\n<li>\u201cThe natural aerosol over\u00a0Northern Europe and its relation\u00a0to anthropogenic emissionsimplications\u00a0of important climate\u00a0feedbacks\u201d by P. Tunved et al.,\u00a0published in Tellus.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cRecent severe heat waves in\u00a0central Europe: how to view them in\u00a0a long-term prospect?\u201d by J. Kysel\u00fd,\u00a0published in the International\u00a0Journal of Climatology.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCan mesoscale models reproduce\u00a0meandering motions?\u201d by D.\u00a0Belu\u0161i\u0107 and I. G\u00fcttler, published in<br \/>\nthe Quarterly Journal of the Royal\u00a0Meteorological Society.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The awards were presented by the\u00a0representative of the World Meteorological\u00a0Organization, Dr. Deon Terblanche, Director\u00a0of the Department of Atmospheric Research\u00a0and Environment. The event was attended\u00a0by personalities from scientific, political and\u00a0diplomatic circles as well as by Mrs. Androulla\u00a0Vasileiou, EU Commissioner for Education\u00a0and Culture with her husband Mr. G. Vasileiou,\u00a0former President of Cyprus Republic. Zerefos (Nymph Hill, 2011).<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>The MKF, in collaboration with the\u00a0Hellenic Hydrological Society and the\u00a0Cyprus Association of Hydrologists and\u00a0Mineralogists, co-organized the 9th\u00a0International Hydrogeological Conference\u00a0and the 4th \u201cMEM Workshop on Fissured\u00a0Rocks Hydrology\u201d. The conference was held\u00a0on October 5-8, 2011 in Kalavryta, Achaia\u00a0with the participation of 15 countries.\u00a0The\u00a0 Proceedings of the Conference\u00a0were published in 2 volumes by Springer\u00a0Publishing (Advances in the Research of\u00a0Aquatic Environment, Vol. 1 \u2013 2, 2011).<\/li>\n<li>On November16-17, 2011 in Constantinople\u00a0was held the 8th summit of the GEO (Group\u00a0on Earth Observations) member Countries.\u00a0The National Greek Representative and\u00a0Chairman of the MKF Board Mr. C. Zerefos\u00a0was represented by the Deputy National\u00a0Representative and head of the Greek GEO\u00a0Office Mr. Vasileios Tritakis. The Greek Geo\u00a0Office operates with the support of the\u00a0MKF.
